Redeeming Love

redeeming love

For the past couple of weeks I have been having this undying urge to write, however, for some strange reason, whenever I am at my comp, everything and anything I want to write about just disappears. Irony is, as soon as I leave the house, I write a whole article in my head. So finally today I have got self to write and I shall not leave this comp without a complete article. I have so many ideas of what to write about, problem of having an open blog is you are not restricted to a certain topic.

The secret to writing is most often reading, I have not read in a while. Actually, the last book I tried reading took more than a month to read to page 67 I gave up on it. Before then, I was a reader, my husband teased me that maybe I should have married a book ‘angalau angesomwa’. To this day, apart from my love of African Literature, Francine Rivers is my best fictions writer. She has such a captivating way of writing; I read her 596-paged books in two days, hence my husband’s comment. On nights when I have her book, on a good night, I sleep and about 3:48 AM and remind my mind that at least I slept before 4 AM.

The first time I picked her (Francine Rivers) book, I was in campus and bored, my parents do not have a home in Nairobi and so my weekends were mainly spent and campus as ¾ of the other students left for the city. Me and my diaspora friends were left to the entire 300 acres of boredom. So one day, my roommate who adored Rivers left a book in the room as she went home for the weekend, I thought maybe I could give this lady a chance. I tried. I could not. It was boring. That was the end.

So after my experience with her mark of the lion series, I decided she was not worth my time and so I went back to my African writers. Years later, everyone I met told me about her writing, I could not understand. A new housemate, a new year, and this time it was a different book, The Last Sin Eater, what! I was sold out, no sooner was I done with that one, than my housemate gave me The Atonement Child. Captivating. Amazing. Intriguing. Awesome book. So from that day I have loved her writing, if you ever have a chance to read, I would certainly recommend her.

Well, of all the books I have by Rivers, Redeeming Love was and still is my best. She has a way of pulling you in and making you think you are one of the characters. In fact, as I read the book, I was walking through the fields and even went to the river to take a bath, I slept in the barn and ate applesauce with all natural ingredients, my friend’s husband died and I swung on the tree, I went to the city, got on a boat and rode my horse, I read my Bible and wish I was someone else. Yes! She is that captivating. I wish I could tell you what it is about, but I hate spoilers, so if you have the chance and money, please indulge on this one. I could so bet my money on it that you will love it.

Another of her books that I totally enjoyed was …….Time for me to stop writing and get myself another of her book! And before I forget, this is not a book review, just a blogger expressing her love for a writer! Rivers, when I grow up I sure would not mind being like you

You have said it all!!! Francine Rivers captures your mind and sets your imagination on an amazing journey. I love the way she takes stories from the Bible and makes them real. I haven’t read any of her books in a long time, but her stories still float into my mind once in a while. She transformed my view of the Bible and made me want to read it more!
Thank you for writing!
