Dear Employer

I would like to thank you for the way you were patient with me when I came to work for you three years ago, I remember I was straight from campus and unlike every other employer you did not need me to have more than two years experience in my field. I have learnt so much in those three years and the experience was amazing, thank you.

I also remember the pay back then, it was unbelievable that I was earning almost twice as much as my collage colleagues were earning back then, 40,000/= was it for me. Thanks you for having my back on the pay.

However, sir I would like to present my case of needs to you in 2012. Today I went to buy salt and the shopkeeper asked for 15/= that was a lil shocking as the same salt cost me 5/= back then. Actually it’s not just the shopkeeper, the Matatus are a problem, to tell you the truth, when you paid me 40K, I was sure I would buy a car in less than two year, lets just say I was wrong. Before I was used to the matatus hiking fare when it rains but nowadays they seem to be just high, when I started out, I was paying a total of 80/= per day and so the most I would spend on transport was 2,500/= monthly, now I have to budget for 160/= on a good day P.S I have not move houses since I started working for you.

Speaking of houses, my landlord has increased my rent twice and I really need to move because my things do not fit in the servant’s quarter anymore. In fact, the extra bed that my friend Lisa left for me when she was flying out, has started rotting because I kept it outside due to lack of space. I have done my homework and the cheapest house I can get will cost me twice what my SQ costs now. I have been saving and I can move comfortably without asking for an advance but I am sure my current salary will not be enough to sustain me unless I start eating into my savings, which according to the seminar you held for us a while back should never be an option if we want to succeed.

If you remember during my job interview, you asked how many siblings I have, five was my answer and 3rd born was my position, well the last two are still in school and it has been my responsibility to take them through school with the help of the first two. I know from the news you are aware that the school fee has been raised and that books have also increased in price significantly. I can only hope that quality of education has gone up too, if not then we are investing in the wrong system, shux!

If you had more time, I would go on to tell you about all the things that have been depending on my salary and I have been handling it very well, I bet you had no idea all this was on my plate. I would tell you about my chama and our monthly contributions, about my church moving to a new location and I have pledged part of my salary to facilitate the move, about my plans to get married so I am pulling almost all my resources together towards the wedding, about my grandmother who has been ailing and is constantly in hospital which means my salary, an on and on and on!

So having said that, would you please consider increasing my salary, if I was to choose a percentage that is reasonable, I would say 100%. I feel that owing to that fact that many things have gone up by the same %age or more that will be able to sustain my many needs and me.

Looking forward to a favourable response

Regards
